UTICA, N.Y. — A new law has been enacted to update New York’s hunting regulations, permitting hunters to carry their licenses, tags and privileges in a secure electronic format.
Signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday, this bill was co-sponsored by Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon, who represents the 119th district.
The new law lets hunters carry proof of their hunting license on a smartphone or other approved electronic device.
Hunters can electronically tag deer and bears.
The law is intended to simplify “compliance for hunters” in the State.
“By embracing modern technology, we’re reducing unnecessary barriers for sportsmen and women, improving convenience and efficiency, and supporting the tradition of responsible hunting in the Mohawk Valley and across our State,” Buttenschon said.
