The last major quake in New Jersey was April 5, 2024 when a 4.8M hit Tewksbury Township, New Jersey. The quake was felt as far north as Mount Washington in northern New Hampshire. New Jersey doesn’t have as many or as strong earthquakes as places like California, but it still has some. Most are caused by old faults, like the Ramapo Fault. These quakes are usually smaller and less frequent because they’re not near active plate boundaries.The Ramapo Fault is a major fault line in New Jersey and New York.
