The DiJonai Carrington trade wasn’t the only shocking roster move the Dallas Wings announced Sunday morning.

To complete their roster moves in the Carrington trade, the Wings waived veteran center Teaira McCowan. The McCowan decision was surprising to much of the team’s followers.

McCowan was one of the Wings’ longest-tenured veterans entering the 2025 campaign. Dallas originally acquired McCowan through a trade with the Indiana Fever during the 2022 offseason.

McCowan ultimately appeared in 119 games throughout her Dallas stint, averaging 10.7 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks. She played in 17 games during the 2025 season, averaging 5.6 points and 4.6 rebounds.

The center missed part of the 2025 WNBA season as she represented the Turkish national team in a EuroBasket tournament. McCowan hadn’t started any games for the Wings this year.
