PLEASANTON, Texas – A local high school student is behind bars after leading police on a high-speed chase, which ended in a fiery crash.
Around 2 a.m. on Sunday, near the corner of Highway 97 and County Road 431, an Atascosa County Deputy on patrol in a marked police car was passed by a vehicle, allegedly going over 110 miles per hour.
According to the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy attempted to catch the vehicle, but the suspect sped up even more in an attempt to evade police.
Moments later, at the intersection of Highway 97 and Corgey Road, the suspect vehicle crashed out and burst into flames.
The suspect, a local high school student, escaped the vehicle unharmed and was placed under arrest for Felony-Evading Arrest w/Motor Vehicle.
Investigators believe that alcohol may have been a factor, but investigators are continuing to look into the case.
