SAN ANTONIO – A large fire broke out on a hillside near Pipe Creek, Texas, prompting a major response from fire crews.

According to the Pipe Creek Volunteer Fire Department on Facebook, a large brush fire broke out before 6 p.m. on Saturday, near Bear Springs Road.

Crews from the Pipe Creek Volunteer Fire Department stayed on the fire throughout the night, at first containing the spread before putting out the remaining flames.

“The fire was started by lightning during the storms yesterday afternoon. There is currently no danger to people or property, but the weather will play the biggest role in what it does,” the Pipe Creek Fire Department said on Sunday.

When asked “Why?” by locals surrounding the massive response to the brush fire, firefighters responded by saying that the area relies on the brush and surrounding foliage for its exotic game hunting, as well as for ranchers who rely on it, as well as the local animal population.

“This fire is threatening a rancher in our community who asked for our help, and we are here to defend him, his property, and his animals, just as we would for everyone else,” said the department. “Hope that answers the ‘Why’ for you, Mr. Citizen.”

Crews are continuing to put out remaining hot spots and will remain alert for flare-ups as local temperatures rise to over 100 degrees.
