The Speedway Classic did not quite live up to its lofty expectations, but that doesn’t mean that players didn’t still make the most of it.In a video that was posted online to the Cincinnati Reds’ social media pages, Elly De La Cruz could be seen hanging out with country star Tim McGraw before the game on Saturday. There, De La Cruz can be seen doing something that is typically unfamiliar territory for him on the ballfield: pitching. “I’ll take a crack,” McGraw can be heard saying in the video after posing for a photo near a batting cage with the star Reds shortstop. “What’s a good bat to use? I probably can’t hit anything, but I’ll try.”De La Cruz can then be seen throwing three different pitches to McGraw. The country star hits all three, but with varying degrees of accuracy.McGraw was at Bristol Motor Speedway as one of the scheduled pregame performers of the Speedway Classic, along with Pitbull and Jake Owen. However, the pregame concert may have been the best thing about the Classic on Saturday. The game was ultimately delayed for 2 hours and 25 minutes due to rain, before finally starting at 9:40 p.m. The game then barely made it 20 minutes before being suspended again, and was eventually postponed to Sunday. However, despite McGraw’s mixed results from his impromptu batting cage practice, baseball is definitely not something unfamiliar to him and his family. The singer’s father, Tug McGraw, was a pitcher for the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies between 1965 and 1984.See the moment below.
