The first day of school is right around the corner, and one church in Jacksonville opened their doors to relieve parents of the back to school shopping pressure.
For the past eleven years Roosevelt Drive Church of Christ has hosted a free clothing giveaway in August. Allowing residents to stock up on free shoes and clothes.
Community members spent their morning combing through different clothing racks and stuffing their bags with stylish items.
Event coordinator Anne Edwards says most of the clothes are donated, but some are brand new. She says she hopes this yearly event sends a clear message to residents.
Its really important to the community for the community to know that we care about them, that we want to help in some way. There are lots of ways to help but this has turned out to be a very great project.
The event brings out at least 400 people a year according to Edwards.
On the 16th of this month, they’ll also be hosting their back to school bash for kids to come out to play, eat and fellowship.
