WASHINGTON (7News) — Washington Mystics center Shakira Austin is the Women’s National Basketball Association’s (WNBA) Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played between June 16 to 22, the team announced on Tuesday.
This is Austin’s first career player of the week, making her the ninth player in the franchise’s history to earn the recognition.
Austin averaged 19.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists, and two steals during that week, according to team stats.
She hit a career high of 28 points, with 10 rebounds, three assists, and three steals against the Atlanta Dream, despite the Mystics’ 1-point loss against them on June 20.
The last Mystic to earn Player of the Week was Elena Delle Donne in July 2022.
The Mystics host the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
