WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump will sign an executive order on Tuesday creating a task force to help oversee the 2028 summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the White House confirmed.

The task force will focus on security, transportation and visa processing, according to Reuters, which first reported the task force.

White House press secretary Karolina Leavitt told the outlet that Trump had been “instrumental in securing America’s bid to host the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles” and he “considers it a great honor to oversee this global sporting spectacle in his second term.”

“On behalf of LA28, I want to express our deep appreciation to President Trump and his Administration for their leadership and unwavering support as we prepare to deliver the largest and most ambitious Olympic and Paralympic Games ever hosted in the United States,” Casey Wasserman, the chair and president of the LA Olympics, said in a statement.

Wasserman added that Trump “has consistently recognized the magnitude of our responsibility in welcoming the world to Los Angeles.”

The executive order follows Trump’s signing of the nearly 1,000-page tax and spending cut bill on July 4 that will allocate $1 billion for “security, planning, and other costs” related to the Olympic Games.

In February, Trump signed an executive order banning transgender athletes from women’s sports and the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee changed its rules in July, complying with the order.

The ambiguously worded paragraph under the USOPC athlete safety policy reads: “The USOPC is committed to protecting opportunities for athletes participating in sport. The USOPC will continue to collaborate with various stakeholders with oversight responsibilities, e.g., IOC, IPC, NGBs, to ensure that women have a fair and safe competition environment consistent with Executive Order 14201 and the Ted Stevens Olympic & Amateur Sports Act, 36 U.S.C 22501, et. seq.”

The last time Los Angeles hosted the games was in 1932 and 1984.
