A trove of original art from the pages of Playboy magazine and other artifacts associated with the iconic publication will be auctioned off in Los Angeles later this month, officials announced Tuesday.
“Fine Art from the Playboy Archives — Part II” follows up on the first such action from last December, and will take place Aug. 26 at Julien’s Studios in Los Angeles and online at juliensauctions.com.
“This next chapter unveils some of the most coveted and unseen pieces from the golden era of Playboy,” Julien’s said Tuesday.
“At the heart of the sale is a celebration of Playboy’s unparalleled legacy of commissioning fine art from some of the most iconic artists of the era. Headlining the event are stunning works by LeRoy Neiman, whose energetic paintings and Femlin illustrations captured the seductive pulse of mid-century America.”
The auction includes more than 300 items. Among the highlights are:
— LeRoy Neiman, “Squaw Valley Painting” (estimated at $30,000-$40,000);
— Alberto Vargas, “Pin-Up Watercolors from 1963 & 1965” ($10,000-$20,000);
— Patrick Nagel, “Seagull and Sailboat Drawing” ($4,000-$6,000);
— Harvey Kurtzman & Will Elder, “Little Annie Fanny” 6-Panel Comic Strip (1963), $12,000-$15,000;
— Ed Paschke, “Rainbow Rabbit Head Sculpture” ($8,000-$10,000);
— Crystal Hefner, “Diamond and Platinum Engagement Ring Set” ($15,000-$20,000;
— Collection of Bound Playboy Magazines, ($10,000-$20,000);
— Custom Purple Silk Pajamas * Estimate: ($1,000-$2,000);
— Jack Cole, Original 1956 Drawing ($1,000-$2,000).
