SAN ANTONIO — Starting college can be nerve-wracking, but thanks to a new initiative by the SAISD Foundation and Compudopt, students from the class of 2025 in need of a laptop will receive one to help them on their higher education journey. This effort aims to ensure that every student, whether attending a two-year or four-year institution, has the necessary tools for success.

Officials from the organizations emphasized their commitment to supporting students from their first day of college through to graduation. They aim to remove barriers, such as access to technology, that can hinder academic progress.

Judy Geelhoed, Executive Director of the SAISD Foundation, said, “Can’t imagine the days of going to a computer lab and reserving time, you know, those kinds of things are long gone. And so, you know, we just think having a computer at college is one of those critical things that allow students to start off on the right foot and to make sure they’re ready for the hard coursework ahead.”

Students who registered for a laptop and received a notification can pick them up Tuesday evening starting at 5 p.m. at the Alamo Convocation Center.
