PHOENIX — A recovery operation is underway on South Mountain in Phoenix after human remains were discovered on Tuesday, according to authorities.
The Phoenix Police Department said that homicide detectives were made aware of the remains, but due to the terrain in the area, specialized equipment will be needed to get the remains off the mountain.
The department did not say where exactly the remains were discovered on the mountain, which sits inside a park and preserve that encompasses more than 16,000 acres.
No other details were released.
