For two weekends in August, 4, 5 and 6 train riders will see service suspensions along swaths of the three subway lines.

The MTA said it plans to carry out track replacement work along the lines the weekends of Friday Aug. 15 to Monday, Aug. 18 and Friday, Aug. 22 to Monday, Aug. 25.

The suspensions will begin on those two Fridays at 11:30 p.m., with regular service resuming on those two Mondays at 5 a.m.

Workers will be replacing the concrete under switches north of 14th Street to protect the system from future leaks and corrosion, the MTA said.

Riders can expect to see the following service changes, according to the transit agency:   

  • 4 trains won’t run between Grand Central-42nd Street in Manhattan and Crown Heights-Utica Avenue or New Lots Avenue in Brooklyn.
  • 4 trains will run local between Woodlawn in the Bronx and Grand Central-42nd Street.
  • 5 trains will not run between East 180th Street in the Bronx and Bowling Green in Manhattan.
  • 5 trains will only run north of East 180th Street to and from Eastchester-Dyre Avenue in the Bronx.
  • 6 trains won’t run between Grand Central-42nd Street and Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall in Manhattan.
  • 6 trains will run local between Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx and Grand Central-42nd Street. 

The MTA will be offering the following service alternatives in Manhattan to accommodate riders:

  • Special weekend W line service will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on those Saturdays and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on those Sundays.
  • The S shuttle train at 42nd Street will run all weekend, including during overnight hours.

The transit agency is advising commuters to take N, Q, R, W, 2 and 3 trains for service between Grand Central-42nd Street and Bowling Green.

Riders can transfer between 4 and 6 trains and N, R and W trains at Lexington Avenue-59th Street.

They can also transfer between Grand Central-42nd Street 4 and 6 trains and Times Square-42nd Street N, Q, R, W, 2 and 3 trains using the 7 train or S shuttle train, according to the MTA. 

In Brooklyn, the MTA is advising riders to take 2 and 3 trains for service between Borough Hall and Franklin Avenue-Medgar Evers College. Commuters can also take 3 trains for service between Franklin Avenue-Medgar Evers College and New Lots Avenue. 

3 trains will be running to and from New Lots Avenue all weekend, including overnight, the MTA said.
