BYU is getting one of its top 2026 targets on campus as JUCO point/combo guard KJ Perry has set his official visit with BYU for September 11-12, according to 247 Sports’ Brandon Jenkins.

Perry is arguably the top JUCO prospect in the 2026 class and is an explosive play maker who puts immense pressure on a defense with his ability to get to the rim. His recruitment took off in July after a huge performance at the JA48 in Richmond, VA and he’s seen offers poor in since. KJ received an offer from BYU July 17, and also has offers from Kansas, USC, TCU, NC State, SMU, Cal, and several others. KJ took an unofficial visit to SMU in May and has his official visit scheduled there the week before BYU. Perry is a 6-foot-3 point guard who can really score the ball and create off the dribble. BYU has not really dabbled in the JUCO ranks since Kevin Young became coach, so this offer shows BYU thinks highly of KJ as a player.

Originally a member of the 2024 class, Perry was a 3-star prospect out of high school and committed to Cal State Northridge before he decided to go the JUCO route at Citrus College. This past year as a freshman, Perry averaged 17.5 points and 2.8 assists on 50% shooting from the floor and 35% from three. Perry averaged over 4 free throw attempts per game and 76% of his field goal attempts were from two, backing up the tape that his game is built first on using his explosiveness to get to the rim. Perry received mid-major and some high major offers during his freshman season, and the high major offers poured in after Perry impressed during the July live period. Below is a recent scouting report from JUCO Recruiting’s Brad Winton.

“He’s an explosive guard with a frame built for the next level and can get downhill at will, constantly putting pressure on the defense. He elevates on his jump shot from both mid-range and beyond the arc, making him a high-level offensive threat. On the defensive end, Perry also impressed by applying consistent pressure and disrupting opposing ball handlers.”
