We’ve discussed brunch spots several times in this column, but I suspect it’s extremely unlikely you’ve been to every single place and tasted every menu special available in Tarrant County. That said, if I’m wrong, and you can prove you actually have done this, please let me know — I’d like to interview you.

Meanwhile, for slackers, here are some new brunch dishes, a donut update and a kids’ discount up for grabs.

Keke’s Breakfast Cafe serving $5 kid meals until late August

In honor of back-to-school season, kids get discounted meals at Keke’s Breakfast Cafe. With adult entrees of $8 or more, meals for kids 12 and under are $5 Monday-Friday until August 29. This applies to breakfast meals such as silver dollar pancakes or eggs, bacon and toast, or lunch items such as grilled cheese and cheeseburgers with fries.

For the grown-ups there are breakfast and brunch classics, including French toast, waffles, omelets and bowls, as well as paninis, sandwiches and salads for lunch. Adult and kid menus are on their website. This franchise has two Fort Worth locations and is open 7 a.m.-2:30 p.m. all week.

Those with a sweet tooth can try the new funnel crepes at Taste of Europe in Arlington, a restaurant that specializes in Eastern European cuisine and features a grocery. They recently shared an Instagram photo of the dish with chocolate sauce, berries and whipped cream. Their website doesn’t show brunch or breakfast menu, but regular crepes are on their menu, as are savory blintzes, German sausage, Ukrainian borscht and potato pancakes plated solo or with bacon. That sounds like brunch to me.

Taste of Europe accepts takeout orders online and on their app. They are open noon-8:30 Sunday and Wednesday-Thursday and noon-9:30 Friday-Saturday.

Weekend brunch kicks off at Rex’s Bar and Grill

Rex’s Bar and Grill now serves weekend brunch, according to a press release, and since pizzas appear prominently on their lunch and main menus, it’s no surprise they’re also offering a breakfast version with sausage, over-easy eggs and pickled jalapeno. Diners can also choose from breakfast tacos, bowls, migas, chilaquiles, churro toast with strawberries, and fried chicken and waffles.

Alcoholic beverages are also big at Rex’s, with cheers to six brunch cocktails. Among them are bloody Marys, mimosas and a cinnamon toast martini with vanilla vodka, Cinnamon Girl whiskey and horchata. Nonalcoholic drinks include horchata, five fruit juice varieties, tea, coffee and an iced vanilla latte. Their menus are available on their website.

Donuts roll out again at Spiral Diner

Spiral Diner on West Magnolia Avenue was having issues with their donut fryer recently, according to their email newsletter. Last week they updated diners that the issue is fixed, meaning donuts are up and rolling again at the vegan diner. They start serving donuts at 7 a.m. and finish whenever they run out. Other early breakfast options include English muffin breakfast sandwiches.

For the brunch crunch, Spiral has all-day breakfasts, from pancakes, migas and tofu scrambles to breakfast tacos and a pancake grilled cheese sandwich. Gluten-free pancakes, migas, tacos and other dishes are also available.

Ol’ South Pancake House’s “Burgerama” showcases lunchtime classic

If you’re wanting something more on the lunchy side of brunch, another back-to-school special option can be enjoyed at Ol’ South Pancake House. They’re celebrating Burgerama by dishing out a hamburger trio. The Ol’ Timer is made with sauteed onions, jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, avocados and bacon, while the T-Rex embodies the classic American cheeseburger with cheddar, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onion. The combo rounds out with their Cowtown burger, which brings some heat with a Cajun spiced patty, fried egg, bacon, cheddar and veggies.

The eatery is also selling $25 “Texas strong” T-shirts at their Fort Worth and Burleson locations and donating all T-shirt sale proceeds to Kerrville county flood victims. Available while supplies last.
