I just received a notice of public hearing from the city of San Diego. It concerns the proposed adjustments to the water and wastewater rates. What I don’t understand is the monthly meter service charge. I’ve had the same meter, as probably many others have had, for years. Why am I being charged for something that just sits there and does absolutely nothing other than count the number of gallons of water used?
To add insult to injury, this charge is proposed to go up every year in this proposal! Why is the city proposing to increase this meter service charge rate every year for four years? I understand the changes in the water commodity rates. Those prices tend to fluctuate (they always seem to fluctuate up). But the same meter that has been installed for years in the sidewalk in front of my house hasn’t changed and most likely won’t.
