PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A man has been indicted after he reportedly led police on a chase while fleeing officers in Phoenix last year.
Johnny Lee Castillo, 45, faces multiple felony charges stemming from the November 2024 pursuit.
According to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office (MCAO), Castillo was being investigated for a retail store theft when he fled from police. As he ran, he reportedly struck a Phoenix officer.
Police found Castillo a few days later, and again, Castillo fled from officers, MCAO said. Officers chase Castillo for an hour as he allegedly drove over 100 mph and into oncoming traffic.
Castillo then rammed a police cruiser, and MCAO says he put the lives of other drivers, passengers and pedestrians at risk. The pursuit ended when officers stopped Castillo’s vehicle.
MCAO said the pursuit spanned multiple law enforcement jurisdictions.
Castillo faces three counts of aggravated assault and one count of unlawful flight from law enforcement. He’s being held on a $100,000 secured appearance bond. His trial is scheduled for November.
