Evacuations have been lifted in Clairemont Tuesday evening after firefighters at the scene quickly gained the upper hand on a blaze that burned in Tecolote Canyon.

The blaze was first reported around 5:05 p.m. near Mount Ariane Drive, just east of Cowley Way, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Within 10 minutes, the fire had quickly grown and was threatening structures in the area, said Jose Ysea, a spokesperson for the department. Firefighters initially reported the blaze had spread to 5 acres, but that number was later downsized to 3 acres with updated mapping.

About 50 firefighters, including ground crews, helicopters and air tankers, responded, fire officials said.

Around 6:35 p.m., Fire-Rescue officials said the fire’s forward progress had been stopped and it was 50% contained.

All evacuation orders and warnings were lifted by 7 p.m., the San Diego Police Department said.
