PHOENIX — United Airlines flights were grounded at Phoenix Sky Harbor and other airports around the country on Wednesday evening due to a technology issue, officials said.

Real-time status information for Sky Harbor stated that, due to a carrier request, departure flights to airports around the country would be not be allowed to take off until after 6 p.m.

The airports included Denver International Airport, Newark International Airport, Houston/George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Chicago O’Hare International Airport and San Francisco International Airport —  all of which are United Airlines hubs.

“Due to a technology issue, we are holding United mainline flights at their departure airport,” United Media Relation said in a statement to KTAR News 92.3 FM.

“Safety is our top priority, and we’ll work with our customers to get them to their destinations.”

It is unknown when the issue will be fixed.

United Airlines advised customers to expect additional flight delays as it works to resolve the issue.
