Re “Ramona leaders get vocal about improving SR-67 after fatalities” (Aug. 2): SANDAG and other entities involved in the question of State Route 67 safety should be aware that seven of the eight recent fatalities involved drivers crossing out of their lane into oncoming traffic.
The problem is not the roadway, which has double lines and reflectors and miles of yellow barriers indicating no passing. The problem is the high speeds which many drivers practice. I drive this route a lot on Sunday mornings, when speeding to get to work should not be an issue. Yet most are obsessed with speed.
Perhaps more law enforcement visibility would help. I never see a police car on SR-67.

More fatalities on State Route 67, almost weekly accidents on SR 94, poor off- and on-ramps on east Interstate 8.
SANDAG and other government agencies continue to ignore these problems. Taxpayers in East and North County deserve equal services to those in other parts of the county.
Instead of addressing these problems, SANDAG is focused on the same money pits as last year: the San Diego airport transit connection, Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo rail corridor improvements and the Otay Mesa Port of Entry.
Is this really for the better good? How exactly do I in North County benefit from this?
SANDAG’s bike lanes mean more road closures and a loss of parking places. Do the needs of a few bicycle riders throughout the county trump safety on our highways?
Write to your local elected officials and tell them to take care of our problems with our tax dollars, and not follow the developers’ wish lists.
