Jacksonville police are investigating a collision that killed a man on Sunday at the intersection of U.S. 17 and Gum Branch Road.

At around 12:06 a.m. Sunday, officers with the Jacksonville Police Department responded to a crash at the intersection of U.S. 17, or North Marine Boulevard, and Gum Branch Road.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a man on an electric scooter had been struck by a 2013 Kia sedan, according to Sarah Sinese, JPD public affairs coordinator.

The man was later identified as Clemmitwykie Green, 43, of Jacksonville.

Green was traveling northeast on the sidewalk along U.S. 17 and attempted to cross over Gum Branch Road while the driver of the sedan had the green light. Sinese said.

The driver of the sedan proceeded southeast from Gum Branch onto Bell Fork Road.

As a result of failure to yield right of way, Green collided with the sedan and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to the hospital for treatment but died later from his injuries, Sinese said.

The investigation is ongoing.
