SAN ANTONIO – New details have surfaced in the April shooting death of a San Antonio man near a Southwest Side shopping center.
Andre Montera, 24, was found on Apr. 23 off Nogalitos Street near Gladstone Street with gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he would succumb to his injuries.

According to the arrest report, a witness told police that Montera was picking up a woman to take her to work when the suspect, Ronnie Jay Salas, 22, walked up the Montera and a struggle ensued. At some point, Salas shot Montera and took off.
The witness positively identified Salas in a single-photo lineup conducted by the San Antonio Police Department.

Salas was eventually tracked down on May 15 by U.S. Marshals to Hoisington, Kansas, approximately 120 miles from Wichita, following a tip that he was staying in the area. He was taken into custody without incident and extradited on Tuesday to San Antonio to face a murder charge.
