More than 33,000 students attend Saint Paul Public Schools.
ST PAUL, Minn. — Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) and its largest labor union have reached tentative agreements on the 2025-2027 contracts, according to a press release Friday.
SPPS shared that the Saint Paul Federation of Educators (SPFE) agreed to contracts for licensed staff, educational assistants and school and community service professionals, after months of bargaining. The agreements were reached ahead of the school year and without mediation – for the first time in almost 20 years – according to the SPPS statement.
“This agreement shows what’s possible when we come to the table with respect, transparency, and a shared commitment to our students,” said SPFE President Leah VanDassor in the statement Friday. “Starting the school year with a settled contract allows us to focus on what matters most – our classrooms, our kids, and our community. Now, we’re ready to work together on this fall’s referendum and continue building the public schools Saint Paul deserves.”
Next, union members and the SPPS Board of Education must approve the agreements.
“We are incredibly grateful to our district bargaining team as well as the Saint Paul Federation of Educators for working openly and collaboratively to settle this contract. Our Board members were proud to join the bargaining team and reach a resolution that supports and affirms our educators while keeping our students at the center,” the Board of Education said in a statement.
