A person was fatally shot after trying to prevent a robbery at an establishment in Fort Worth, according to police.
West Division officers responded to a call about a shooting in the 2800 block of Cherry Lane, a Friday news release from Fort Worth police said. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim inside the business with a “gunshot wound to the upper torso.”
The victim — who has not yet been identified — was taken to a local hospital, where he died, police said.
Detectives found that the suspect, who was armed with a rifle, entered the business through the back door and attempted a robbery, according to police. The victim tried to intervene and was shot by the suspect.

Police said the suspect fled the scene on foot through the back door. Additional information on the suspect was not available as of Friday afternoon.
The incident is being investigated by the department’s homicide detectives.
