Project detail:
- Picks up where the first phase of the road construction left off. Phase 1 widened the street by filling in the runoff ditches and adding sidewalks on both sides and building a middle turning lane. The project had a two-year timeline, but was finished in 15 months.
- Phase 2 started construction in July. The project includes installation of a three-lane undivided concrete pavement section from Park Vista Boulevard to Lauren Way. Improvements include: street lights, 10-foot sidewalks, traffic signal at Woodland Springs Drive, and stormwater drainage.
The east-west Keller Hicks relieves heavy traffic. The two-way, two-lane road has drainage ditches on the north and south sides and isn’t pedestrian-friendly.
At the meeting, Mitch Alton of the Fort Worth city staff, told residents that Phase 2 has a two-year timeline, but he said he was optimistic the work wouldn’t take that long.
Some audience members expressed concern over filling in the drainage ditches. Alton said the new technology used to plan and execute the reconstruction would include better drainage accessibility by using curb and ground inlets that will help funnel the water through culverts at two beneath the street.
The addition of the middle turn lane will help with traffic flow, and the addition of the sidewalks will make the strip more pedestrian-friendly, the city said.
