Georgia snapped a lengthy NCAA Tournament drought this spring and is set to mark the occasion with a new banner.
After all, it was UGA’s first March Madness appearance since 2015. The Bulldogs earned a No. 9 seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament, their highest seed line for the Big Dance since they were a 3-seed way back in 2002.
Here’s a look at the banner:
The only problem is Georgia’s biggest rival, Florida, just won the National Championship — its third since the last time Georgia won a game in March Madness. To make matters more awkward, Georgia currently employs Florida’s former head coach in Mike White, who parted ways with the Gators after 7 mostly-uneventful seasons back in 2022.
Georgia’s first trip back to the NCAA Tournament ended poorly as the Bulldogs were routed by Gonzaga, 89-68 in the first round.
It’s worth noting the banner appears to be for Georgia’s practice facility and not for its home arena, Stegeman Coliseum. Still, Florida fans were relentless with their criticism of the choice to hang a banner for such a modest accomplishment.
Here’s the best of that reaction:
Thanks for the $1.25 million to take Mike White by the way
