RCMP release:
The Nova Scotia RCMP Commercial Crime Section (CCS) has charged Nicholas Eugene Croscup, 44, originally of Lower Sackville, with additional fraud-related offences as a result of an ongoing investigation.
Through the investigation, officers determined that between 2022 and 2024, Croscup pretended to be a car dealership broker and falsely sold used vehicles to Nova Scotians. He offered fake financing plans, collected deposits from prospective buyers via e-transfer, and then cut off contact with them. He often used the identity of a deceased Nova Scotian to conceal his own when communicating with others about the fraudulent sales.
In August 2024, CCS arrested Croscup in Regina, Saskatchewan, for five outstanding arrest warrants out of Nova Scotia in relation to previous fraud-related offences. Officers then executed a search warrant and obtained evidence to support new charges.
On July 31, the following additional charges were laid against Croscup:
- Fraud over $5,000
- Fraud under $5,000 (nine counts)
- Identity Theft (two counts)
- Possession of Proceeds of Crime
Croscup, who was released by the court on the previous charges and remains on conditions, is due to appear in Shubenacadie Provincial Court on October 20.
