Gail Harriet Malkus

OBITUARY

Gail Harriet Malkus (formerly Rutman and Resnick) was born in St. Paul MN. She graduated from Central High School and went on to be a Radiology Technician. After moving back to San Diego she worked at Nordstroms and retired after many years at Congregation Beth Israel.

She is remembered by her first husband Jack Resnick and later found happiness again with James (Jim) Malkus.

Her family was her greatest source of joy. Her six grandchildren brought her endless delight, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Whether it was “grandparents camp,” Big Bear, taking them on a cruise or just having a sleepover with making popcorn, cookies, and pancakes.

In retirement, Gail and Jim continued traveling to countless countries, exploring and making memories wherever they went. You could also find her cheering on the Padres, playing golf, aquacise at the YMCA, playing mahjong or Liverpool gin. Evenings spent watching her favorite reality tv shows with red licorice, jujyfruits or popcorn made her smile.

Above all, Gail will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family and friends. And though Gail may no longer be with us in person, her kindness, thoughtfulness, and sense of humor will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Gail was predeceased by an older brother, Howard Rutman, and is survived by her sister Vivian Givant (Alan) and three children Dana Cunningham, Carin Martin, and Sari Resnick along with her step-children Heather Kolkey, Matt Malkus (Sarah) and Todd Malkus (Stacie) and six amazing grandchildren: Rachael and Jake Cunningham, Rex Martin, Dane, Scott, and Brooklyn Malkus.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to Congregation Beth Israel, “the Caring Community” or to Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank in honor of Gail Malkus.
