PHOENIX — A man is in critical condition and two dogs are dead after a mobile home fire broke out in north Phoenix on Sunday morning, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the area of 15th Avenue and Hatcher Road around 10:30 a.m. and discovered smoke emitting from the windows. Authorities said they had to navigate “personal belongings stacked high inside the home” before getting to the man.

Once they got the man out of the home, firefighters took him to a local burn hospital for treatment.

The man’s wife escaped the home before firefighters arrived on the scene. She was assessed outside the home but didn’t need to go to the hospital.

Two dogs in the home didn’t survive the fire.

Phoenix FD said the fire was contained quickly and it didn’t spread to any other homes in the area.

The fire’s cause is unknown.
