New York sit tied with Philadelphia for first place in the Eastern Conference. Red Bulls II were last in action on July 31 at Historic Crew Stadium against Columbus Crew 2. New York opened the scoring in the ninth minute, when midfielder Andy Rojas took a touch onto the top of the box and curled a right footed shot into the top right corner of the net. Red Bulls II doubled their lead in the 48th minute. Defender Marcelo Morales whipped in a corner kick towards the near post that was headed home by midfielder Aiden Jarvis. New York conceded in the 54th minute but held on to earn a crucial 2-1 road victory.
Union II are coming off a 1-0 victory over FC Cincinnati 2 at Subaru Park on August 3. Philadelphia are unbeaten in 10 of their last 11 matches.
Through seven all-time MLS NEXT Pro matches, New York are 1-4-2 against Philadelphia. The side is unbeaten in their last two matches against Union II.
The two sides last faced each other on March 17 at Subaru Park. Philadelphia opened the scoring in the 20th minute, when midfielder Cavan Sullivan laced a free kick into the bottom left corner. Union II would go down a man after defender Gavin Wetzel was given a red card in the 81st minute for taking down New York midfielder Rafael Mosquera on a counterattack. Red Bulls II equalized in the first minute of stoppage time. Jarvis slipped a through ball into the box to forward Tanner Rosborough who struck a left footed shot into the bottom right corner. The match would move to a penalty kick shootout where Philadelphia took two points from a 3-1 shootout victory.
