SAN ANTONIO – A woman has died from severe injuries after allegedly being hit by an elderly driver.
Around 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, police were called to the scene of a major accident at the intersection of Castroville Road and South General McMullen on the West Side.
Police on the scene said that when they arrived, they learned that a man in his 70s had been driving along South General McMullen, but was having issues seeing due to low light conditions.
That driver then, according to investigators, drove up onto the median, where a woman, in her mid-40s, had been panhandling.
Investigators say that the woman was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but has since succumbed to her injuries. She has yet to be identified.
Police do not suspect that any intoxication or negligence was a factor in the incident.
