A man sleeping inside a car that had been reported stolen awoke to ram it into police vehicles on Monday morning, officials said.

According to police, at about 3:27 a.m. on Monday, officers found a Nissan Maxima parked in a lot along the 6200 block of Harley Street in Southwest Philadelphia, that had a man inside asleep in the passenger seat.

Officials said the vehicle had been reported stolen in May from just a few blocks away — the 2600 block of Holbrook Street.

Upon waking up, officials said, the 26-year-old man inside the vehicle moved into the driver’s seat and started the car.

He then rammed a police vehicle, officials said, before backing his Maxima up and colliding with another police vehicle before hitting several other parked cars.

The man, officials said, was taken into custody shortly afterward.

Police have not yet provided further information on this incident, the individual involved or any charges the driver may face.

An investigation into this incident, officials said, is ongoing.
