BRONZEVILLE — The Chicago Housing Authority’s free summer meal program is winding down for the season.

The program, which feeds kids and teens at 25 sites across Chicago’s South and West sides, is set to end Friday. The agency has been partnering with the Greater Chicago Food Depository since mid-June to supplement Chicago Public Schools’ lunch program, providing families with stability through the summer when they can’t count on school meals during the week.

All meals are served Monday through Friday on a first-come, first-serve basis beginning with breakfast from 8:30–10:30 a.m and lunch 12:30–2:30 p.m. Each site serves an average of 25 kids per meal, with some feeding up to 50 kids per meal, according to CHA.

The program will return next summer, said the agency.

The first day of the new school year for Chicago Public Schools is Aug. 18. CPS offers free breakfast and lunch to all students.
