Charlie Cummings gives his top DraftKings WNBA Pick6 plays and projections for the two-game WNBA slate on Tuesday, August 12th.
WNBA action on Tuesday will kick off at 7:30 p.m. EST. We have a two-game slate, starting with the Wings taking on the Fever. One of the more unique features on DraftKings this year is WNBA Pick6 Fantasy Basketball.
This article will examine my top WNBA Pick6 plays for today’s action. You simply choose whether each set statistic will be more or less than the set number. With the stage ready, here are my favorite picks on the WNBA Pick6 slate.
Sabrina Ionescu More Than 19.5 Points Scored
The hot streak is dead and gone. And it’s about time Sabrina Ionescu started a new one.
Over a six-game span, the All-Star averaged 27.7 points per game on 52.6% shooting. That’s cratered to 11.7 PPG on 27.5% shooting over her last three. She’s feeling the absence of Breanna Stewart, and it’s starting to hurt her efficiency, though the volume remains. Against a hot Sparks offense, they’ll need her to score in bunches if the Liberty are to remain competitive.
The good news for Ionescu is that Los Angeles’ defense remains suspect. Though Cameron Brink is back in the fold, their perimeter defense is unreliable. Sabrina is more than due for a hot performance from three. The jump shots will fall in this one.
Jonquel Jones Less Than 15.5 Points Scored
It’s been a tough stretch for a lot of New York’s players; Jonquel Jones is not excluded from that. While the reigning Finals MVP continues to excel defensively, the offense has taken a hit in her return from an ankle injury. And it’s not for a lack of efficiency. The volume is turned down so low you can hardly hear her some nights.
Over her past six games, Jones has single-digit FGA on four occasions and less than 15.5 points in five of those games. In this case, it’s genuinely from a lack of trying; she’s hitting 58.2% of her shots, including 55% of her threes. Despite Breanna Stewart’s absence, Jones has not been able to scale up offensively. Perhaps her ankle injury continues to bother her, or she’s focusing more on the defense. Either way, breaking out in the scoring column against Cam Brink feels unlikely to me.
Aliyah Boston More Than 14.5 Points Scored
It feels odd to say that a third-year player who has made the All-Star team all three seasons is one of the most improved players in the league. But here we are. The leap Aliyah Boston has taken offensively has been fascinating to watch, and that has manifested itself against the Wings on more than one occasion this year.
In three games against Dallas this season, Boston has scored 12, 17, and 21 points. The Wings have size, but they’re not functional enough to handle Boston’s drives and success in the mid-paint. It’s going to be another successful night for the budding star.
