Good evening, Texas. We’re wrapping up the day for you with the most important stories you need to know and your weather outlook.
Your Weather Planner
While it is still uncomfortably hot, temperatures overall should be right near normal for most of Texas this week. Austin and San Antonio can expect highs in the upper 90s, while DFW may see slightly “cooler” highs (mid 90s) Tuesday and Wednesday as a result of rain and storm chances. Any storms that develop are not expected to be severe. Austin and San Antonio may also see a few showers, but coverage will be widely scattered. Feels like temperatures will still be at or just above 100 degrees any given afternoon across the board.

Today’s Big Stories
1. San Antonio City Council debates Council Consideration Request process
Newly elected San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones says council members now have to go to the city manager, city attorney and mayor’s chief of staff first for approval on any new proposals. In the past, council members could freely gather signatures and send the proposal to a committee before making it to the dais. Now, they are second in line.
2. Texas Republicans crank up pressure on House Democrats who fled state over redistricting
The Republican leaders of Texas are raising the stakes for the state House Democrats who skipped town to block a vote on the proposed congressional map. But the Democrats say they are not backing down, even with the threat of the FBI possibly tracking them down or the efforts to remove them from office.
3. Texas is No. 1 in preseason AP Top 25 for first time, edging Penn State, Ohio State
For the first time, Texas will open a college football season ranked No. 1 in The Associated Press Top 25.
The Longhorns hardly have a mandate in the poll released Monday: They edged out Penn State by just five points in the closest preseason vote since 1998.
