Following our previous visit to LMN Architects, we are moving our Meet Your Next Employer series to New York City this week to explore the work of CetraRuddy.

Founded by John Cetra and Nancy Ruddy, the architecture and interiors firm has established a portfolio including residential, hospitality, education, cultural, and commercial sectors. “Design is a collaborative journey and our work is grounded in understanding the specific interests and concerns of our clients, as well as the unique identity and objective of each project,” the firm says about its approach.

Over on Archinect Jobs, the firm is currently hiring for several positions to join their New York City team. For candidates interested in applying for a position or anybody interested in learning more about the firm’s output, we have rounded up four high-rises by CetraRuddy that exemplify the firm’s ethos.

A 50-story, 620-foot residential tower, One Madison Park is inspired by the Metabolist movement’s modular, plug-in concepts. The design features cantilevered ‘pod’ units that expand floor plates from 2,700 to 3,300 square feet and provide varied layouts, including terrace units. A cruciform of internal shear walls enables open perimeters, while a roof-level Tuned Liquid Damping system reduces wind and seismic movement. The scheme is clad in earth-toned bronze glass, with a slender form designed to complement Madison Square Park’s historic architecture and align visually with the Flatiron and MetLife towers.

Orion is a 60-story, 650,000-square-foot residential tower designed for Extell Development Company. Named after the constellation, the tower is defined on its exterior by blue and green glass curtain walls. The tower houses 550 apartments, many offering 360-degree views of the Hudson River, Central Park, New Jersey, and Manhattan. Amenities on the 29th and 30th floors include an 8,500-square-foot fitness center with pool, screening room, lounge, and cafe, while an 18-foot-high lobby features rosewood, metal paneling, and Pompeian stone.

A 1.3 million-square-foot mixed-use residential complex in Jersey City, Hudson Greene comprises two towers: 77 Hudson and 70 Greene. Sharing an 11-story parking podium topped with a 35,000-square-foot rooftop park, the towers offer harbor views and extensive indoor and outdoor amenities. Clad in floor-to-ceiling blue-green glass, the towers feature a faceted design for enhanced views, with the design of each tower responding to its context. 77 Hudson faces a commercial district, while 70 Greene integrates masonry, brick detailing, cornices, and vertical setbacks to complement the historic Paulus Hook neighborhood.
