VIDEO: Loud boom heard in Atascocita Forest

KINGWOOD, Texas – Dozens of residents in the northeast Houston area have reported hearing a loud boom.

Kristen Teuschl sent us this video of the boom heard in The Commons in Huffman. She says it shook her house. The sound was heard for miles including Kingwood, Humble and Atascocita.

Social media posts are circulating of residents around Kingwood, Humble, and Atascocita feeling their homes shake after hearing the noise around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

What caused the explosion?
What we know:
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez initially wrote on X that the sound was “associated with a community education class hosted by a local fire department” at a location in the 20000 block of Burle Oak Drive. However, in a follow-up post, he said “the source of the loud booming sound has not been identified at this time.”
Around 10:40 a.m., the Atascocita Fire Department reported they were responding to an “explosion” incident on Burle Oak Drive. However, they said the report was unfounded.

Sasha Lynch Scalia shared video to FOX 26 of the loud boom heard in the Trailwood Village neighborhood in Kingwood. Multiple people from across Atascocita, Kingwood, and the Humble have reported hearing a loud boom.
The cause of the loud boom that was heard for miles is still not known.
SkyFOX flew over the Atascocita/Humble area but did not find any signs of what may have caused the noise.
FOX 26 has a crew headed to the area to learn more. We are reaching out to public officials.
