SAN ANTONIO – A late-night confrontation behind a South Side body shop ended with a man and killed Monday, after a dispute between a security guard and two men who frequent a drainage ditch behind the property, police said.
The shooting occurred just after 10 p.m. off Southwest Military Drive near Pleasanton Road.
Police said the 35-year-old security guard, who was hired to protect the property, had ongoing problems with one of the men.
Investigators said the guard approached the man when a friend of the victim stepped in, telling the guard to leave him alone. The friend then reached for what the guard believed was a firearm. That’s when the security guard pulled his weapon and fired, striking the 41-year-old man in the chest.
The victim was rushed to the hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries.
Police detained the security guard at the scene. No word on if he’ll face any charges.
Detectives from the San Antonio Police Department’s homicide unit are reviewing evidence, interviewing witnesses and determining whether the guard’s actions constitute a criminal offense.
The names of those involved have not yet been released, pending notification of family.
