NEW YORK (WRGB) — Community members and advocates are set to rally Wednesday alongside New York State Senator Pat Fahy (D) and Assemblymember Gabriella Romero (D), in West Capitol Park.
The group is gathering to urge Governor Kathy Hochul and legislative leaders to convene a special session to protect New Yorkers from what they describe as the “Federal Budget Scam,” which they claim disproportionately benefits millionaires and billionaires while harming local communities.
The rally, which will also take place in New York City, highlights urgent issues such as rising healthcare premiums and the detention of individuals in inhumane conditions. Organizers argue that millions of New Yorkers face increased risks of illness, hunger, and insecurity due to the federal budget bill.

Advocates are pressing state lawmakers to take immediate action by convening a special session to address these concerns, with proposal for funding the healthcare system and ensuring affordability by requiring the “wealthy to pay their fair share of taxes.” Additionally, they are calling for the passage of the New York for All and Dignity Not Detention Acts to enhance community safety.
The rally begins at 11 a.m. at West Capitol Park in Albany, with a simultaneous event at Foley Square in New York City. The Columbia County Sanctuary Movement will also provide a livestream of the Albany event on their Facebook page.
