A new report looking at job-to-job switches during the past decade has shown Phoenix among the top cities for getting more workers into the region from other cities.
The Valley ranked No. 3 in net gains in those job-to-job switches, netting 9,327 jobs in a report from Commercial Search and Yardi. Phoenix ranked behind Houston and Dallas in terms of the top spots.
Most of the people flowing to jobs in Phoenix come from Arizona, with Tucson as the top location. Los Angeles was second on the list, followed by Prescott Valley, other Arizona areas and Flagstaff.
Those people leaving Phoenix for jobs often were heading to the same markets, with the vast majority leaving for Tucson, Prescott Valley, other Arizona areas or Flagstaff. Fifth on that list was Los Angels, according to the report.
Phoenix was also third on the list with the number of people changing jobs remaining in the metro area. About 77.4% of job switchers stayed in the region, according to the report, trailing only Las Vegas and New York.
Those switching jobs in the Phoenix area primarily were millennials, making up about 45.9% of job switchers.
The report was designed to measure the net of job-to job flows. The report defined those moves as people who were moving from one job to another without a period of unemployment.
