PHOENIX – A pedestrian died after getting hit by a vehicle as he crossed a central Phoenix street on Tuesday night, authorities said.

Officers responded to a collision call in the area of 18th Street and Osborn Road, just west of State Route 51, around 9:40 p.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.

When they arrived, they found a pedestrian, 34-year-old Nicholas Chris Davidson, in critical condition.

He was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Was driver who struck pedestrian arrested?

The driver of the vehicle that struck Davidson remained at the scene and was cooperative with officers. Impairment is not believed to be a factor, police said.

“Preliminary information suggests Davidson was in the designated crosswalk when he was struck by the vehicle,” Sgt. Lorraine Fernandez said in a media advisory.

A decision about whether to press charges will be made after the investigation is completed.
