A man was arrested Tuesday after he snatched an undisclosed amount of money from a customer during a cash deposit and ran out of a bank into a getaway car in Imperial Beach.

The robbery happened just before 2 p.m. Tuesday, when the suspect – later identified as Roberto Galvan, 40 – allegedly approached the victim from behind, grabbed her money and drove away from the Chase Bank located on the 1100 block of Palm Avenue.

The victim tried to stop Galvan, but sustained minor injuries while holding onto the car as he fled the area, the agency said. Her name was not immediately released.

Deputies with the Imperial Beach Sheriff’s Substation were told that Galvan was spotted in El Cajon. With help from the El Cajon Police Department, the suspect was found shortly afterward and taken into custody without incident, sheriff’s officials said. Galvan was then identified by the victim and arrested on suspicion of robbery.

The amount of money taken and if it was recovered was unclear.

Authorities urged anyone with information about the robbery to call the Imperial Beach Sheriff’s Substation at (619) 498-2400.
