The Olney Gallery in Phoenix returns to First Friday with an exhibit by incarcerated and formerly incarcerated artists.

Straight from the Heart Art Shows is a nonprofit that provides hope and transformation for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals. The organization humanizes the stories of these individuals, a Gallery press release notes.

The exhibit, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 100 W. Roosevelt St., in Phoenix, will be on display Sept. 2-24. A First Friday reception takes place at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5.

Ninety percent of the proceeds from art sales go directly to the artists. The money plays a vital role in helping them transition back into society, whether by covering basic hygiene needs while incarcerated or assisting with essential living expenses upon release.

The Gallery is open 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
