SAN ANTONIO – A suspect is behind bars after allegedly posting violent threats against the newly elected mayor.

On Aug. 12, City Public Service alerted police of a threat made on X (formerly Twitter) against Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones.

According to a preliminary investigation, police say the post referenced the ongoing “Project Marvel” development plan, and comments were made mentioning Mayor Jones desire to pause the plan for further review.

Police say that the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Marcos Rene Olvera, allegedly commented, “We need to kill the mayor.”

Investigators were able to confirm the suspect’s identity, and Olvera was taken into custody on a warrant for Retaliation.
