A suspect is facing charges after Dallas police seized nearly 400 pounds of marijuana at a west Oak Cliff storage facility last week following a tip to officers about a “large shipment” of the drug being readied for transport, officials said.
According to a news release from the department, the Special Investigations Division Organized Crime and Racketeering Squad received a tip about “a shipment of marijuana being readied for transport to Dallas.” Detectives found that the shipment was being held at a storage facility in the 4300 block of Communications Drive.
Police said investigators established probable cause before obtaining a search warrant for the location and executing it on Aug. 6. According to the department, detectives seized roughly 179,081.7 grams, or about 398 pounds, of marijuana at the facility.
“Anytime we get drugs off the street, it’s a success – and almost 400 pounds of marijuana taken off the street represents a significant success,” said police Maj. Yancey Nelson, commander of the Special Investigations Division.
