NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 13 – Kenyan creator monetization platform Twiva has received funding from the Sony Innovation Fund, the corporate venture capital arm of Sony Group Corporation, to support its expansion in Africa’s fast-growing digital economy.
The deal makes Twiva one of the early African companies in the Fund’s portfolio, as Sony increases its exposure to emerging digital ecosystems on the continent.
The funding will be used to expand Twiva’s operations into new African markets, enhance its technology infrastructure, including AI-powered tools for creators, and accelerate the rollout of its payment solution, Twiva Pay, which facilitates creator transactions and provides financing for influencer marketing campaigns.
Twiva connects content creators with brands for influencer marketing, social commerce, skills training, and live streaming, positioning itself in a sector seen as one of the continent’s most dynamic sources of new employment.
Africa is home to over 250 million young people active on digital platforms, with the creator economy increasingly viewed as a driver of entrepreneurship and job creation.
The platform operates a “branded house” model covering five business areas, including influencer marketing, social commerce, Twiva Academy for skills development, embedded finance, and livestreaming.
“With Sony’s expertise in entertainment and technology, we will scale our impact, expand into new markets, and unlock new income-generating opportunities for Africa’s youth,” said Peter Kironji, CEO of Twiva.
“This investment accelerates our efforts to build Africa’s most impactful creator-powered ecosystem, where creators are not just influencers, but entrepreneurs and job creators driving inclusive economic growth across the continent.”
The Sony Innovation Fund said the investment reflects its interest in Africa’s digital creative industries, which it views as an underdeveloped but high-potential growth area.
Twiva aims to create over one million digital jobs in the next five years by providing tools and financial services that enable creators to operate as entrepreneurs while offering brands more targeted and authentic customer engagement.
Founded in Kenya, Twiva works with creators, social media platforms, financial institutions, and brands to connect campaigns with audiences, streamline payments, and integrate financial products into the creator economy.
