Detroit Red Wings fans grew weary of coach Jeff Blashill and then coach Derek Lalonde, but USA Hockey will always be in their corner.

Blashill (Blackhawks head coach) and Lalonde (Toronto assistant coach) are among the speakers at USA Hockey’s Level 5 coaching symposium in Columbus, Ohio. It starts tonight and runs through Sunday. Other speakers include Blue Jackets Director of Hockey Operations Don Waddell , plus NHL head coaches Dan Muse (Pittsburgh), Mike Sullivan (New York Rangers), Ryan Warsofsky (San Jose) and former head coach Don Granato.

The Friday highlight will be a Q and A session with John Tortorella.

More than 500 coaches seeking to attain their Level 5 certification, the highest designation offered by USA Hockey, will attend the event. The Level 5 Symposium occur every two years.

Blashill and Lalonde have always given their time to USA Hockey. Blashill has been head coach of four USA national teams, including the men’s national team at the 2017 World Championships.
