OWINGS MILLS, Md. — The second leg of the 2025 FedEx Cup Playoffs begins Thursday as the BMW Championship gets underway from Caves Valley Golf Club just outside Baltimore. With Rory McIlroy back in the field after skipping the first round and Sepp Straka missing due to a personal issue, there is once again an incomplete field for the second week in a row, though 49 of the top 50 golfers on the PGA Tour will nevertheless be competing for significant money and the opportunity to play in next week’s Tour Championship to conclude the season.

Scottie Scheffler, the top-ranked golfer in the FedEx Cup standings, has seen his lead over McIlroy grow markedly as the Northern Irishman did not take advantage of last week’s points-scoring opportunity, but given the Tour Championship will equalize the top 30 golfers remaining after 72 holes in Maryland regardless of their positioning, the focus this week will largely be on the top of the leaderboard (determining a winner) and those golfers on the bubble seeking to qualify for the season finale in Atlanta.
