MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WCHS) — Former U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin has announced a tour this fall to promote his book “Dead Center: In Defense of Common Sense.”

Macmillan Publishers describe the work as a memoir written by “a true Maverick of American politics.” The book contains a forward legendary college football coach and fellow West Virginia native Nick Saban.

Manchin made an announcement on social media, stating the book pulls back the curtain on his political decision-making process.

The following tour dates and moderators have been announced:

  • Sept. 12 – Morgantown, W.Va. with Hoppy Kercheval
  • Sept. 15 – New York, N.Y. with Gayle King
  • Sept. 17 – Nashville, Tenn. with Brad Paisley
  • Sept. 21 – Washington, D.C. with David Rubenstein
  • Sept. 22 – Naperville, Ill. with David Axelrod
  • Sept. 22 – Virtual event with the Commonwealth Club World Affairs of California

Manchin’s political career spanned more than four decades and included time as West Virginia’s governor along with 15 years in the U.S. Senate.

In 2024, Manchin left the Democratic Party and identified as an independent before announcing he wouldn’t seek re-election. Manchin’s seat is now held by Jim Justice.
