MADISON, Wis. — The Dane County Regional Airport will reconsider its plan for mitigating noise in and around the airport.
New Executive Director Mark Papko said Thursday that the draft of the Noise Compatibility Program (NCO) will be withdrawn. The program was not yet finalized or published by the FAA, which means the airport can resubmit an altered version to better position itself for federal noise mitigation funding.
Papko cited a lake of input from those in the area, a need to ensure feasibility and a lack of FAA funding opportunities for the current plan as reasoning for withdrawing.
“To maximize federal and state funding opportunities, the County, City, and Wisconsin National Guard must speak with one unified voice,” Papko said. “Collectively, our voice for support is louder as one.”
The NCP lays out best practices and recommendations for noise mitigation at and around the airport. The recommendations are usually reflected in the airport’s master plan. That master plan will now be updated.
